Golgo is ICE COLD. It is hard to translate how cold he is. He communicates only with unsatisfied grunts, and demeaning glances.
Pick up up the Manga for the Golgo genesis story, it's something else.

Also, I don't think Golgo was cold on that one. I think he was actually as compassionate as he could have been and still remained Golgo.

Genesis? Is that one of the stories about how he came to be Golgo 13?

More or less, the manga has been running for ages, and I was reading a special edition. However, it was in Japanese, and I didn't understand anything really, so I may be completely wrong. Still, the manga looks great.

VIZ Media released 13 all english volumes of some of Golgo 13's previous mangas from Japan. They each had two stories per volume, and the 13th volume had one of the very few "possible" origin stories of Golgo 13...

Hi! I have read and own the Viz media version of Golgo 13. The story that Airborne6176 mentioned is called "The Serizawa Family Murders". Its a disturbing tale which does provide reason about Golgo 13's grim, cold demeanor yet in the end, Saito Takao masterfully has the readers create their own conclusions. In my opinion, I think Goro Serizawa, the sole survivor of the Serizawa family, is Golgo 13. Honestly for people to actually understand Golgo 13, they must read the mangas.
When I was watching the RAW Golgo 13 anime episodes, I actually read some of the stories - Galinpero, Shadow of Death (Episode 14-Deadly Fate at Sunset yet Viz Media translated the title as 'Shadow of Death' in volume 12), Dead Angle, Ice Lake Hit (published back when manga was at it infancy in America), and a couple of others. I love watching the TV anime episodes which are actually based on the manga stories and are better than the OVAs. I am not really interested in the live action flicks starring Ken Takakura and Sonny Chiba.
In Japan, the DVDs will be available in June yet its expensive. I hope its licensed in America soon as well. Too bad there isn't much appreciation for Golgo 13 over here. He's an institution and cultural gem in Japan.
Anyhow, I look forward to the rest the subbed episodes. Keep up the good work!

Correct. Furthermore, Golgo 13 never gave a definitive answer for this possible origin. IMO Takao Saito should never give a definitive answer for his origin as that implies he was a normal character to begin with. Part of the charm of Golgo 13 is that he is so mysterious, and this is maintiained by his stoic nature. Not that he's not emotionless, he has shown surprise on numerous occasions, but the emotionless state is forced by extreme willpower on Golgo's behalf.

brother is on vacation this week, so I told him he better get on those translations. Apparently his girl doing the rough translations is two episodes ahead of him. I'm trying to figure out a way to make him as productive as her.
